MAPSLICER (CCP4: Supported Program)

NAME

SYNOPSIS

mapslicer [ mapfilename ]

DESCRIPTION

mapslicer reads in CCP4 format map files and can display contoured sections though the map along any of the principal axes. mapslicer uses code from the CCP4 graphical user interface ccp4i.

mapslicer offers the following functions:

• Read in CCP4 map file, pick any section on any axis and display contour levels
• Shortcuts to Harker sections
• Can alter contour levels, section limits and grid
• Can alter screen scaling
• Can display info on map header and currently displayed section
• Displays cursor position in fractional coordinations, and the density at that point
• Print section to a postscript file with user-defined scaling (eg mm per angstrom)

The mapslicer script runs through ccp4mapwish, which is a customised version of the TCL/Tk interpreter wish.

USAGE

mapslicer is controlled through menus in the main window:

File menu:

Open new map file

Select a new map to view. Any existing map currently being viewed will be overwritten in the viewer's memory.

Print

Print the current section to a postscript file.

Exit

Close the viewer.

Section menu:

Next section

Step to the 'next' section along the current axis (i.e. increment the section number by one).

Previous section

Step to the 'previous' section along the current axis (i.e. decrement the section number by one).

Any section

Allows the user to select any section within the map along any of the three principal axes.

Harker sections

Shortcuts to Harker sections. The user must select the correct spacegroup and then select "Reset Harkers". The menu will then be populated with the possible Harker sections. Select the desired section to display it.

Contours menu:

Change levels

Allows you to change the contour levels displayed. This is based on the old NPO keywords.

Change grid

Allows you to change properties of the grid and the extent of the section displayed.

Axis menu:

Shortcuts to any of the principal axes: x, y or z.

Scale menu:

Set the on-screen scaling, in pixels per Angstrom. A number of preprogrammed possibilities are available, there is also an option to set the scaling manually.

Info menu:

Map info

Displays a window with information about the current map.

Section info

Displays a window with information about the current section, including the contour levels.
